Learning Goals and Assessments

Learning Goal(s):

  2. To practice content analysis through the comparison of social science interviewing to an example of celebrity interviewing.
  3. To cultivate essential interviewing skills (e.g. asking questions, probes, rapport-building, etc.) for qualitative sociological methodology.

Goal Assessment(s):

  1. Students will conduct a content analysis of a celebrity interview by completing an in-class worksheet followed by an in-class discussion, emphasizing the structure and dynamics of the interview and the relationship between interviewer and interviewee.
  2. Students will build upon the initial in-class analysis by completing their own, out-of-class worksheet on a separate episode of Hot Ones analyzing the same components as the in-class example.
  3. Students will engage in further in-class discussion of qualitative research methodologies and the findings of their content analysis.
  4. Students will engage in further in-class discussion of qualitative research methodologies and the findings of their content analysis.
