Learning Goals and Assessments

Learning Goal(s):

  1. In this lesson, students will explore the ways that our perception of drug use is filtered through an understanding of race, class, and gender.
  2. By the end of this lesson, students will be able to identify some ways that economic, racial, and gender privilege influences our perception of drug use and abuse.
  3. By the end of this lesson, students will be able to articulate some stereotypes we have about women drug users.

Goal Assessment(s):

  1. Potential short answer or essay question: In what way does the social status of a drug user (race, class, gender, etc.) influence the way society perceives the deviance of using particular drugs?
  2. Class large or small group discussion. Discussion points are detailed in the notes and PowerPoint slides.
