Learning Goals and Assessments
Learning Goal(s):
- Goal 1: Applying sociological concepts and theories to real-world events and issues;
- Goal 2: Seeing sociologically in their own daily lives to distinguish between individual troubles and public issues; and,
- Goal 3: Communicating these ideas using both formal written sociological analysis and a popular media format (blog).
Goal Assessment(s):
- Assessment 1: This goal is assessed through the written portion of the assignments, in which students were asked to analyze an “image” and write a critical analysis of their images using a sociological lens.
- Assessment 2: This goal is assessed through Assignment 2, in which students are asked to find three sociologically relevant images to analyze.
- Assessment 3: This goal is assessed through the written portion of both assignments; in Assignment 1 students write their analyses in academic format; Assignment 2 asks students to analyze each image in both blog and academic styles.
