Usage Notes

This is an interactive exercise designed to work in a tutorial, discussion group, seminar or lecture in any sociology course (up to 60 students). I usually lead this activity on the first or second day of class at the beginning of the term. Materials needed: post-its (enough for two per student).

  2. Students will identify and acknowledge the needs of their peers.

  1. Students will write down one thing they need in order to feel comfortable participating in classroom activities, and one thing they can offer to their peers to help them also feel comfortable.
  2. Students will review the post-its on the board to note emerging patterns across the class.
