Abstract

In this class, we will investigate these issues, using contemporary and historical examples, and ranging over themes including gender identity and the body, race and the body, definitions of normalcy, the quest for perfection, attempts to mold the self, commercial implications of the beauty culture, and beauty as self-affirmation.
