Continuing from the first half of the two quarter sequence taught during the fall by Prof. Rebecca Emigh, we cover both cultural sociology—an approach to social relations from the perspective of how people symbolically make sense of the world (in contrast to material structures)—and the sociology of culture—the social relationships through which people do arts, music, mass media, literature, etc. It is designed specifically to prepare sociology graduate students to prepare for the field examination in cultural sociology, but will also be of interest to other students both in sociology and allied fields.
