Students should complete the course with a basic knowledge of these theoretical and conceptual frameworks, as well as an understanding of how theory is developed, tested, and applied to practical social problems and research questions. They will also learn various schemas for analyzing sociological theories and to evaluate the relative strengths and weaknesses of major theories, as well as gain some awareness of current debates in the field.In addition to these particular areas of content, students will develop skills in writing, oral presentation, class discussion, critical thinking and analysis.
