Students demonstrate an ability to apply theories and concepts learned in a course on deviance in a final paper. Students are required to attend an open AA meeting on at least 3 different dates, as well as review 5 pieces of literature on alcohol abuse, dependency and/or AA. Students then write a paper that includes an overview of the deviant behavior that is being treated, a summary of their observation experience, and a sociological analysis of the management of this specific form of deviance in their community. In the paper, students describe a positivist and constructionist approach to the management of alcohol abuse and dependency. ER -
