Participants will identify and explore the skills necessary to bring theory and professional practice together through sociological ways of viewing the social world, inquiry, reflection, and implementation. Explanation and expectations of the UMBC MA program in sociology will be addressed. Professional roles and socialization, writing, and critical thinking will be stressed, as well as an introduction to quantitative and qualitative research possibilities. In addition, faculty from different specialization areas will visit the class and describe their curricular areas of specialization, research, and teaching so that new students will know more about the opportunities available to them.
