To this end, selected snapshots of the social history of alcohol are viewed, emphasizing changing societal drinking patterns and attitudes. An evaluation of recent research on the biological and chemical effects of alcohol, along with, a review of medical issues, and the disease model of alcoholism and treatment approaches provide some practical information. Detailed attention is paid to special populations and their experiences with alcohol, primarily women and college students. ER -
