It should be noted that each week’s topics could each be considered a field of study. There is no way that one could master the topic in a single semester. The basic goal of this course, like many sociology courses, is to foster a critical awareness and understanding of the nature of contemporary society dominated by consumerism and unending streams of images, signs and implosions of the social that some post modernists like Baudrillard would see as constituting an new realm of image based "hyperreality".
