The goals of this course are to help students become aware of what some of the major social forces are that shape individuals’ family ties and interactions, and how these social forces shape the lives of adults and children, men and women. In short, a primary goal is to enhance students’ sociological imaginations (the ability to see how our private lives are connected to public issues). Also, it is hoped that students will gain a greater appreciation of the diverse experiences and struggles engaged in by different groups/persons who are creating and maintaining families. Finally, students should come away from this course with a clearer understanding and appreciation of their own past and future links to family. ER -
