The course examines how global economic transformations affect women, as well as, how women affect those processes. Topics include the effect of economic development on women’s economic activity, including agriculture, microenterprises, and manufacturing, and on gender relations in families throughout the world, with particular emphasis on countries of the Southern Hemisphere. In addition, the course considers women’s political activism in response to the environmental issues they face during the process of economic development, such as sustainable development, population policies, housing policies, and health problems.
