Males are MUCH more likely than females to engage in crime. This is commonly referred to as the "gender-gap" in crime statistics. Because the gender-gap is so large, very few researchers have concerned themselves with the causes of female criminality, the impact of gender identity on criminal involvement, the experience of women in the criminal justice system, and the experience of women in prison. Recently, however, there has been a flurry of empirical work in all of these areas. This course will introduce you to this body of literature. ER -
