We’ll examine advertising using a historical perspective and address issues of racial imagery in advertising, racial diversity in the industry, and examine current issues of multicultural advertising and marketing. In the process, we’ll also grapple with current theories on race and prejudice and their impact upon advertising.This class is a combination of lecture and seminar, with a heavy emphasis on the seminar aspect. What that means for you is that the class will be primarily discussion based and you will be expected to contribute. We will be reading a variety of material including theoretical, conceptual, and historical literature, some of which may be challenging. Some of this material will also contain aspects that are offensive to persons in the class, so you will all be expected to be courteous and professional towards one another. ER -
