It will trace the way consumption figures into everything from personal self-construction to the economy of cities and neighborhoods to globalized popular culture. We will study beliefs and assumptions about consumption, as well as, issues of consumptive exchange (e.g., holiday gift giving), branding and embodied consumer display, and the meaning consumer items are given by marketers and consumers alike.
