@article{White_2010, place={Washington DC: American Sociological Association.}, title={AIDS IN THE UNITED STATES}, url={https://trails.asanet.org/article/view/aids-in-the-united-states}, abstractNote={Both AIDS and HIV represent more than health care challenges in this country. They also catalyze debates about morality, sexuality, reproductive rights, "family values," race, social class, and religion. As such, the study of the effects of AIDS on this country is also the study of how we function as a social whole. In this course, you will confront these sorts of questions. This will not be a course that is solely devoted to the genesis of AIDS and its epidemiological shifts. You will read about community efforts to "fight AIDS," debate the role of drug testing and the ethical question of requiring AIDS test for certain groups of people. The intention is to make you question how various factions (politicians, social scientists, health care providers, activists and so on) have grappled with HIV and AIDS.}, journal={TRAILS: Teaching Resources and Innovations Library for Sociology}, author={White, Renee}, year={2010}, month={Apr.} }
