In this paper I will describe some of the classroom risks that sexuality professors commonly encounter and will outline strategies that I have found effective in managing or reducing these risks. In particular, I will delineate strategies for minimizing vulnerability to charges of advocacy; dealing with students’ unmet expectations and misconceptions about a human sexuality class; handling classroom projects involving potential risk to students or instructors; meeting students’ needs without sacrificing curricular integrity; constructively using negative student reactions to course content; circumventing the issue of parental disapproval; reducing problems associated with sexually explicit films and materials; and managing the stigma attached to sexuality education and research.}, journal={TRAILS: Teaching Resources and Innovations Library for Sociology}, author={Troiden, Richard}, year={2010}, month={Apr.} }
