This project allows students to explore the cross-cultural differences in the construction of families through interviews with international students on campus. The students work with a partner to prepare 8-10 questions to guide the interview. The questions center on the topics of dating, marriage, divorce, cohabitation, singlehood, and/or parenting. The instructor coordinates with the office of international services on campus to recruit international student volunteers to meet with the students during one class period. After the interview, each student writes an analysis and reflection paper. Results from the reflection papers indicate that students enjoyed learning about different cultural practices directly from the international students. In addition, they reported being more open to continued interactions with international students. }, journal={TRAILS: Teaching Resources and Innovations Library for Sociology}, author={Aamlid, Cindy}, year={2017}, month={Apr.} }
