@article{Ward_2011, place={Washington DC: American Sociological Association.}, title={Queer Identities and Movements}, url={https://trails.asanet.org/article/view/queer-identities-and-movements}, abstractNote={"This course is a challenging and fun multi-media exploration of queer identities, cultures, and social movements. This is an advanced, upper-division, participation-based course. This means that in addition to lectures, films, and readings, I expect that you will listen to and learn from discussion with other students. You will also actively contribute to the production of an activist group project due at the end of the course (see below). Welcome to the course! Important Notes: • During the next ten weeks, we will talk explicitly about topics that people often find uncomfortable and hard to discuss. These topics include (but are not limited to) sex, sexism, racism, religion, and violence. If you have concerns about these topics or feminist material in general, this may not be the course for you, OR you may want to come to my office hours to ask questions before you commit to the course, OR you may want to wait and see how you feel after the first two meetings. • Instead of quizes, a mid-term, research paper, or a traditional final, I am asking you do a lot of reading for this course. I think this is a fair trade-off, but if you are not comfortable reading approximately 80 reader pages/week, this is not the course for you.
