One of the primary aims of the book is to describe the ways in which the social dynamics associated with race impact the life chances of a young black man, a young black woman, and a young white man. Maran tells three stories and in doing so she touches on many of the issues that we have (or will) discuss in this class. The first goal of this paper is for you to apply the theories, hypotheses, and findings that you have been exposed to in this class to the lives of these three students. The second, and perhaps the most important goal of this paper is for you to use the ideas from this class to identify important sociological phenomena in everyday life and to articulate these insights in meaningful ways to other people.}, journal={TRAILS: Teaching Resources and Innovations Library for Sociology}, author={Boardman, J.}, year={2010}, month={Apr.} }
