In the Core classrooms (Soc 108, 215 and 223) you will be expected to teach students from across the campus who are often new to higher education, ill-prepared for our classrooms, uninformed about Sociology and unmotivated to embrace the subject matter of the courses. Teaching in the Core is such an important challenge for our department that I was funded by the Center for Graduate Teaching Excellence at SIUC to transform the curriculum of Soc 518 to address this issue. To that end, we will have workshops on teaching in each of the Core classes during the semester and many of your assignments will be specifically targeted toward Core instruction.}, journal={TRAILS: Teaching Resources and Innovations Library for Sociology}, author={Miller, Michelle}, year={2010}, month={Apr.} }
