The purpose of this course is to introduce you to the key concepts, main theoretical perspectives, and basic research methods of sociology. Sociology is an extremely broad and varied discipline. We will cover many of the central concepts in the field. Sociology is an academic discipline with a very strong tradition of applied research and action. Much of the work of sociologists is geared toward the study of societal problems and how to solve them.
