Substance abuse from a historical perspective will be explored along with theoretical conceptualizations about drugs and criminal offenders. Treatment issues will be a focal point with consideration given to the impact of substance addiction on the individual, families, the community, and American society. Specific attention will be given to cultural patterns of ATOD use among specific populations (e.g., women.).
