We begin the class with historical and theoretical perspectives. Thereafter, we focus on how race, ethnicity, class, and gender are structured in institutions such as the state, work, education, media, and the family. Finally, in the third part of the course, we focus on resistance, activism, conflict, and coalitions, examining the ways that, individually and collectively, Chicanos/Latinas are seeking ways to create change. Throughout the semester, we will endeavor to answer several questions: What are the contemporary experiences of Chicanos/Latinas in the United States? How do these experiences vary by social location? How do structural and ideological factors impact our lives? What are the possibilities for change? }, journal={TRAILS: Teaching Resources and Innovations Library for Sociology}, author={Ochoa, Gilda}, year={2010}, month={Apr.} }
