  1. 1. Identify and describe potential challenges faced by ex-offenders as they attempt to successfully re-enter society following incarceration.
  2. 2. Evaluate the obstacles to successful ex-offender re-entry in U.S. society.
  3. 3. Formulate policy recommendations to improve the likelihood of successful ex-offender reintegration.

Goal Assessment(s):

  1. Students, in groups, will list the specific obstacles encountered by their character. will create and share a story that recounts the experiences of their character. See attached for details
  2. Students, in group discussion, will appraise the factors that limit the opportunities available to many ex-offenders.They will assess their character’s "attempts" (in the game) to re-enter society. Students may also respond to discussion prompts
  3. ▪ In larger class discussion, students will put their own evaluations of their characters into the larger context of ex-offender re-entry in U.S. society by generating 2-3 policy recommendations that are aimed at improving the system
