Usage Notes

I usually use the "Sociological Tweets" exercise in introductory classes but I have also tried them in theory courses with success. Group size for this activity should range from two to five people. Everyone should participate in creating not just the Tweet(s) but also a Twitter handle for the theorist and hashtags that encompass the main ideas and ideas...

  1. 1. Understanding of sociological theories and concepts (e.g. Erving Goffman’s "front" or Patricia Hill Collins’ "matrix of domination" or Skocpol ’s "State Autonomy Theory").
  2. 2. Critical thinking, collaboration, and concise sociological communication.

Goal Assessment(s):

  1. Goal 1: Create Tweets that encompass the chief ideas within a theoretical framework or features of a key concept.
  2. Goal 2: Create Tweets that are 280 characters or a sentence that clearly and correctly express sociological thought; doing this collaboratively.
