Students work in small groups, of their choice, to examine a population of female offenders. Then each group is given each two specific populations of female offenders to choose to research.

Learning Goals and Assessments

Learning Goal(s):

1. Students will learn the unique drives, motivations and causes of leading to female criminality and deviant behavior through the perspectives of the sample under study.
2. Students will learn about the needs of female offenders and how to devise solutions to crimes committed by women.
3. Students will gain the practical experience of working in groups effectively, as well as, to orally and professionally present to an audience.

Goal Assessment(s):

1. By conducting research of a specific group of female offenders, students learn about crimes committed by women and reasons for those crimes. Students should be able to present sociological reasons and gendered explanations for the behaviors of women.
2. Students will think critically about policy implications needed assist women in order to prevent future offending. Creating qualitative questions will allow students to learn of what programming may be need to address female crime.
3. It is necessary for every member of the group to play an active role and contributes equally to the project. Students are required to reflect upon, discuss, and evaluate their experiences working in groups and on the assignment.
