- Increase awareness of the management of deviance in the students’ community.
- Apply course concepts, specifically a positivist and constructionist approach to deviance, to the management of a specific area of deviance in his or her community
- Consider how course concepts such stigma, labeling, framing, and medicalization highlight challenges surrounding the management of deviance in one organization that seeks to address alcohol abuse and dependency.
Goal Assessment(s):
- Students will attend an AA-meeting on at least 3 different dates and write a reflection following each visit.
- The student will write a paper in which he or she describes a positivist and constructionist approach to alcohol abuse and dependency.
- Students will identify, in their course paper, challenges of AA by examining their observations in relation to course concepts
