1. Increase awareness of the management of deviance in the students’ community.
2. Apply course concepts, specifically a positivist and constructionist approach to deviance, to the management of a specific area of deviance in his or her community
3. Consider how course concepts such stigma, labeling, framing, and medicalization highlight challenges surrounding the management of deviance in one organization that seeks to address alcohol abuse and dependency.

Goal Assessment(s):

1. Students will attend an AA-meeting on at least 3 different dates and write a reflection following each visit.
2. The student will write a paper in which he or she describes a positivist and constructionist approach to alcohol abuse and dependency.
3. Students will identify, in their course paper, challenges of AA by examining their observations in relation to course concepts
