SOCI 250: SOCIAL STATISTICS
Download this resource to see full details
Statistics are tools that social scientists utilize in order to study everything from social
movements and prison populations, to rates of unwed adolescent pregnancies.
Statistics helps us answer research questions. What you will be learning this semester
are some basic tools for research in your given field. This knowledge will allow you
to read, critique, and understand the research of others and to conduct your own
research. Additionally, this course is a prerequisite course for research methods - where
you will learn additional tools for conducting research. Think of it this way: research
methods will teach you how to get data and statistics will teach you what to do with the data and what the data mean for that research.
