This course will take a criminological view of violence and victimization in the United States, today. In this course, theories of victimization will be discussed. Also, social and psychological impacts on the victims of many types of crimes will be explored. Finally, we will examine possible solutions to maladaptive victim responses and explore methods to increase victim empowerment through criminal justice system services. The format of the course will include lectures, in-class essay tests, films, group discussions, and partner activities.
