Data in the Classroom
Within the evolving education and technology landscape, it is increasingly possible and important for sociology professors infuse their undergraduate courses with topics and instruction on data analysis.
Data and the Discipline
Almost every sociology department espouses the ‘sociological imagination’ as a major goal for its major. That is, students should learn to see the relationship between individual suffering and social problems. By increasing instruction in data analysis, students in sociology courses will have a far greater opportunity to use empirical data to strengthen the connections they see between private troubles and public issues as well as to make use of new tools to take action on those issues.
